My original footage is about 20mbps from the Panasonic and ~30mbps from the GoPro so why the export bitrate needs to be so much higher with this approach is beyond me and my limited knowledge.DaVinci Resolve is the new kid on the video editing block with an extremely innovative new UI, color management and timeline concept that takes anyone’s editing skills and content to the next level. GoPro records at a higher bitrate and the artifacts always seem to appear on that footage, even when I set the max bitrate in the export HIGHER than the original GoPro footage. My projects use 1080p 30fps footage from a GoPro, a Panasonic, and sometimes a DJI drone.
So I also have to jack up the bitrate to something like 80mbps in order to get acceptable quality with the extra keyframes. However, if the export has more keyframes, it becomes very grainy with the bitrate held equal. Every 1 keyframes works, but 3 seems to do it too so I've gone with that. The only thing that consistently works for me is setting the keyframes, as some others have found.
I've read at least five threads on this forum about this along with others on Reddit and tried every solution offered. I've had this problem in a few projects now, very sporadically, but when that artifact appears, it appears consistently on the same frames. Just adding my experience to this for posterity's sake.
